BJP’s tally dips to 86 in Rajya Sabha, NDA now short of majority in Upper House

The Rajya Sabha is currently trending due to the recent elections held for several seats across various states. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has made significant gains, particularly in Uttar Pradesh, where they won 8 out of 10 seats, and in Himachal Pradesh, where their candidate Harsh Mahajan secured the lone seat amid cross-voting incidents. These elections are part of the regular six-year cycle for the Rajya Sabha, which is the upper house of India's Parliament.

In Karnataka, the Congress celebrated winning three seats, attributing their success to the coordinated efforts of their leadership and legislators. Meanwhile, controversy arose with accusations of cross-voting and the BJP's plans to file complaints against members suspected of voting against party lines.

Additionally, upcoming Rajya Sabha polls are scheduled for July 24 in Goa, Gujarat, and West Bengal, which is also contributing to the trend as prominent politicians like External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar and TMC's Derek O'Brien are in the fray
